What’s happening at the WCA?

Mondays | AA Meeting | 7 p.m.* Big Book Step Study Meeting – open to all

Tuesdays | Tai Chi for adults | 10 a.m.*
Taught by certified instructor Marcia Wyman, the class covers basic tai chi movements for balance, flexibility, strength, and mental concentration. Marcia teaches a modified Yang form that is easy and safe for everyone. The class in on break and begins again September 12. Email Marcia for more information.

Tuesdays | Karate | 4 – 8 p.m.*
Shokotan karate is offered through Tiger Mountain Karate School with instructor Gayle Fleming. Please call her at 763-4774 to enroll.

Wednesdays | Yoga with Coleen | 6 p.m.*
This class challenges us through movement of breath, with energy and vitality! Good for all levels.

Sunday, October 1 | The 8th Annual Scarecrow Contest begins!
Join the fun and build a fun, fanciful, sporty, scary, beautiful … or silly scarecrow(s).The Wilmot Garden Club cosponsors the contest and the deadline for entries is noon on Wednesday, October 25. Lots of prizes will be awarded so don’t miss out.

Thursday, October 12  | Ticks & Lyme Disease Workshop | 7-8:30 p.m.* 
Dr. Alan Eaton, entomologist with UNH Cooperative Extension, will give a talk on tick biology, the human diseases they spread here, and how to minimize the chances of becoming a victim. This talk is part of the Chief David White Memorial Safety and Wellness Series.

Thursday, October 19  |  Senior Luncheon | 11:30 a.m.* 
Hosted by the WCA, the Wilmot Ladies Aid Society, Kearsarge Area Council On Aging (COA), and the Community Action Program of Belknap and Merrimack counties, a Senior Lunch is a terrific opportunity to spend time with friends while enjoying a yummy meal and live entertainment. Reservations required, to reserve call COA at 526 6368.

Thursday, October 19  | Flu Shot Clinic | 5-7 p.m.*  
The Lake Sunapee VNA & Hospice will once again be at the WCA to give flu shots. Don’t forget your insurance or Medicare card. Contact the VNA at 526-4077 for pricing and more information.

Saturday, October 21 | Folk Fusion in Concert | 7-8:30 p.m.*
Local musicans, Susan Cancio -Bello, Nicole Densmore and Laurie Reeder make up Folk Fusion. They will entertain you with songs from Indigo Girls, Paul Simon, Kate Wolf, and others along with a selection of Celtic ballads.

Friday, October 27 | Red Cross Blood Drive | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.*
Give the Gift of Life. The need for blood is always great  and more so with the holidays fast approaching. The Red Cross needs your help. Donors are encouraged to sign up in advance.

Sunday, October 29 | Halloween at the Red Barn | 5-7:30 p.m.*
Save the date! We’re planning some new surprises for Halloween. Come by the Red Barn for some old fashion fun. Rachel and Keith Seamans will once again decorate the Wilmot Community Association’s Red Barn for Halloween and offer candy, cookies, cider and other goodies to kids of all ages.

Sunday, October 29 | Trunk or Treat in the Red Barn parking lot | 5-7:30 p.m.*
Don’t sit home alone waiting for 2 or 3 kids to stop by. The WCA invites Wilmot residents to participate in a Trunk or Treat. Decorate and fill the back of your car with Halloween treats, park at the Red Barn and distribute goodies to Wilmot’s mini ghosts and goblins. Fun for all! Registration required!

Jeff Rapsis is a writer/editor, educator, and also a composer and performer who specializes in creating live musical scores for silent film screenings.

Saturday, December 2  |  Holiday Craft Fair  |  9 a.m. – 3 p.m. 
New location! Join us at the Andover Elementary/Middle School Gym. Sixty craftspeople will be exhibiting and selling their beautifully handcrafted wares. Admission is free.

Sunday, December 9  | Santa is coming to Wilmot |  TBD
We are working out the detail with Santa’s head scheduler. Stay tuned for more information. Admission is free.

Thursday, December 21  | Coffee & Carols | 10:30 a.m.* 
Join us for some holiday cheer with an hour of coffee, cookies and carols! Fred Ogmundson will be at the piano playing old favorites. Hosted by the WCA with help from our friends from the Wilmot Ladies Aid Society.
