Join the fun at the Black Fly Blitz 5K

BFB_2015_start_01Don’t miss out ! More than a run, more than a walk … the Black Fly Blitz 5K is a celebration!

The 13th annual 5K walk/run will start at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29 at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads. Check out the race course! Stick around, after the race there will be music, games and more.

Register by May 26 for the WCA’s Black Fly Blitz and save $5.

Until May 26, race registration is:

free for children 8 years and younger

On race day, registration will be free for children 8 years and younger, $20 for youths 9 to 17 and $25 for adults 18 and older.

Send your form with payment to to the WCA at PO Box 23, Wilmot, NH 03287 or drop it off in the drop box in the front hall of the WCA’s Red Barn at 64 Village Road. Online, mail and drop-off registration must be received by noon Friday, May 26.

BFB_2014_band_03Day-of-the-race registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The Kearsarge Regional High School track and cross-country teams and their coaches will be volunteering at the race and will receive a portion of the proceeds.

The awards presentation will take place at 10:15 a.m. The Cloud Duo will play classic rock and country music. Activities for children will include temporary tattoos and an assortment of games.

BFB_2016_1st_Man_01Registration is open for the region’s favorite 5K! The WCA’s Black Fly Blitz steps off at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. Participants who register by May 1 will receive a free T-shirt.

Participants can register online, by mail or on site the day of the race. Online and mail-in registration closes at noon Friday, May 26! Day-of-the-race registration begins at 7:30 a.m. under the tent on the town green at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads in Wilmot.

Until May 26, race registration is: 

Children – 8 and younger free
Youths – 9 to 17 $15
Adults – 18 and older $20

On race day, registration for participants 9 years and older will increase by $5.

BFB_2014_KRHS_volunteers_07“For the sixth consecutive year, coaches and members of the Kearsarge Regional High School track and cross-country teams will be assisting the WCA on race day,” said Ann Davis, a member of the WCA Board of Directors. Ann and her husband, Marc, are co-directors of the race. To acknowledge the KRHS volunteers’ time, the WCA will donate a portion of the race proceeds to the teams.

The 3.1-mile, 5K scenic course is a clockwise loop that starts on Village Road and continues on Shindagan Road, to Cross Hill Road, to Campground Road and then to Village Road.It is a relatively flat race over slightly undulating terrain.

The WCA is indebted to the many volunteers who gave their time and talents to make the breakfast a success. Heaps of applause goes to the chief cooks and bottle washers, Rachel Seamans and Amber Gove. “We’ve constantly heard how much people miss Sunday morning pancakes at the WCA and were happy to bring them back,” said Rachel. “It was great fun. Everyone had a wonderful time,” added Amber.

Coffeecakes, breads and more were donated by some of Wilmot’s finest bakers and a great kitchen crew was on hand for Sunday. “We want to thank everyone who came out to help us. We couldn’t have done it without you,” said Rachel. The bakers and kitchen crew included Ann Davis, Darlene Delano, Kim Esposito, Adam Glass, Judy Hauck, Darlene Hoyt, Chris Jensson, Mary Kulacz, Nancy Large, Sandy Messer, Michelle Robinson and De Segerson,

The WCA is always happy to help local high school and middle school students earn their community hours. Amber’s sons Josiah and Avery Gove helped with breakfast along with Victoria Cruz, Jacob DuPuis, Carly Esposito, Carla Hoyt, Jack Schwendler and Elijah Westerburg.

Registration is open for the Black Fly Blitz!

The race starts at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at the Town Green in Wilmot at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village roads in Wilmot Flat.

Participants can pre-register on-line or by mail or register on the day of the race. All pre-registrations must be received by noon on Friday, May 26.  Avoid the rush and register by May 1 to receive a free Black Fly Blitz T-shirt.

The Black Fly Blitz is the WCA’s largest fundraiser. Entry fees as follows:

Free: 8 years and younger
$15: 9-17 years
$20: adults 18 and older.

Fees go up on race day – add $5.

The WCA is holding one of its famous Pancake Breakfasts from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 19 at the Red Barn. Bring your appetite! Rachel and Amber will be cooking up pancakes, sausage, bacon and fresh fruit. You’ll also find delicious home baked goods, juice and coffee.

For the modest sum of $6 per person, you can enjoy a fabulous breakfast. It’s all for a good cause. Proceeds will benefit WCA programs. As always, volunteers and bake good donations are happily accepted. Contact the WCA at wca@tds.net if you would like to help.

Thanks a million! The Mystery Dinner was a grand success!

WCA_Mystery_Dinner_05The WCA’s Red Barn was jumping on Friday night, February 10. Happily, the nonstop snow took a break so everyone could come out for a night of mystery, mayhem and delicious food. The evening incorporated a festive fundraising dinner with a fun mystery game.

The WCA is indebted to the many volunteers who gave their time and talents to make this wonderful evening happen. Heaps of applause go out to event chairperson, Amber Gove. The evening was her brainchild. Amber admits, “I could never have done it alone!” Amber’s planning committee worked behind the scene to pull it all together. The WCA is happy to help local high school and middle school students
earn their community hours. To that end, Amber called upon her sons, Josiah and Avery Gove, to help set up for the party.

The fundraising dinner was prepared and donated by some of Wilmot’s best home chefs. Ably led by Rachel Seamans, this fabulous contingent of cooks, bakers and bottle washers prepared and served delicious lasagna, salad and home baked desserts. Those donating food and the kitchen crew included Laurie Bagley, Ann Davis, Kim Esposito, Hannah Howard, Adam Glass, Mary Kulacz, Sandy Messer, Michelle Robinson, Sandy Schmid, De Segerson, Nancy Schlosser, and Barbara Wiggin.

Murder at the Four Deuces – Mystery Dinner & Show

It’s going to be the Party of the Year! At 6 p.m this Friday, February 10, join us for the Murder at the Four Deuces Mystery Dinner at the WCA Red Barn (64 Village Road next to the post office) in Wilmot.

Grand Opening
(Wilmot) Don Wannabe and his wife, Madam MeMe, are hosting the event of the season. The Grand Opening of the Four Deuces speakeasy will take place Friday night. It will be an exciting night for all!

An inside source has confirmed that “The Family’s” créme de la créme will attend this extravagant event. Rumor has it that New York Capo “Toto” Tequila will be in town. Will the Boss of Bosses attend the Grand Opening? Mystery and speculation abound.

Don’t miss out on the fun. Channel your inner flapper and find that fedora! Costumes encouraged! There will be a sing-a-long and prizes.

Dinner and a show in Wilmot!

cardsIt will be an evening of murder, mystery and mayhem starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 10. (Snow date is February 17.) The fun will take place at the Wilmot Community Association’s Red Barn at 64 Village Road in Wilmot. Murder at the Four Deuces is a rip roaring 1920’s gangster murder mystery game. Along with a delicious lasagna dinner, the evening will be filled with murder, bribery and backstabbing!

“Murder Mystery Parties are becoming increasingly popular,” says Amber Gove, chairperson for the gala event. She adds, “These parties provide a unique experience for participants as well as a great fundraising opportunity for not-for-profit organizations like the WCA.” The longtime WCA board member warns, “Tickets are selling fast so don’t miss out.”

Partygoers will have the opportunity to play a role in this interactive mystery game and are encouraged to come in costume. Channel your inner flapper and dust off your pinstripes and fedora for some festive fun. There are an assortment of roles including gangsters and molls, politicians, singers and gamblers. There are no lines to learn but participants receive background information to help them and take on their role.

Thanks a million – Holiday Craft Fair Volunteers

wca_2016_craft_fair_04Nearly 40 volunteers ensured that the WCA’s annual Holiday Craft Fair held Saturday, Dec. 3 was a terrific success. Without the incredible assistance of these fabulous volunteers, it would be impossible to organize and run the fair.

We extend special thanks to Kathy Neuberger, chairperson of the craft fair, for her tireless work and to Rachel Seamans for organizing and staffing Rachel’s Cafe.

Thursday’s Child to benefit the WCA and WLP

wcawlp13flyer2The Wilmot Community Association (WCA) and the Wilmot Learning Place (WLP) will participate in this week’s Thursday’s Child fund-raising event at the Coach House Restaurant at the New London Inn. Join WCA and WLP board members and friends on Thursday, November 17 starting at 5:30 p.m.

A portion of the evening’s net proceeds from the restaurant will be donated to the WCA and WLP. “With many decades of affiliation, it is particularly appropriate that the WCA and the WLP collaborate on this fund-raising event at the Coach House Restaurant,” said Susan Nye, administrator of the WCA. “The Wilmot Community Association and the Wilmot Leaning Place not only share a building, they share the goal of creating a vibrant community.”

“This event is a great opportunity for friends to get together for a fun and festive night out,” said Nancy Large, president of the WCA Board of Directors. “What a terrific way to support two wonderful organizations!”
