Wilmot Community Association Bringing Neighbors Together For 60 Years!

BFB_2016_Race_is_on_01Thanks to almost 200 runners and walkers as well as the efforts of our hardworking volunteers and support of our generous sponsors the WCA’a 12th annual Black Fly Blitz was a resounding success. As always, the 5K run/walk took place on Memorial Day – Monday, May 30.

Proceeds from this important fundraiser supports the WCA’s programs and activities at the Red Barn and Timothy Patten Park. In addition, it provides funds to help keep the facilities in top condition.

BFB_2016_KRHS_Track_Team_Winners_02The WCA  donates a portion of the race proceeds to the track and cross-country teams at Kearsarge Regional High School (KRHS). Several members of the KRHS track and cross-country teams and their coaches assisted with the race. They included: John Cunningham, Tim Cunningham and David Wallace. KRHS coaches and staff assisting with the event included Peter Angus and Ernie Brake.

BFB_2016_Volunteers_01David Zuger, Wilmot police chief, led the nearly 200 runners on course in a police cruiser. Members of the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department’s FAST Squad including Joe Bucchieri, Scott Carpenter, Storm Connor, David Herr, Darren Phipps and Tom Scully were on hand to assist with any medical emergencies.

After the 5K, the runners and walkers received a delicious welcome with homemade cookies baked by Janet Baker, Deb Beerman, Sondra Brake, Lisah Carpenter, Margaret Monto and Jan Sahler. In addition, Bill Burris set up his wonderful handmade games. He was ably assisted by Bill and Margaret Doody. To the delight of children and adults alike, Rosanna Eubank-Long applied temporary tattoos. In a black fly motif, of course.

BFB_2016_1st_woman_01Other volunteers included: Molly Santora, Will Santora, Jim Santora, Gerry Cole, Serenity Cole, Trevor Pauling, Brian Pauling, Phil McCrakin, Rachel Seamans, Keith Seamans, Nancy Large and Trudy Philbrick-Brake. Lindy Heim and Marc Davis assisted with sponsor recruitment. Susan Nye photographed the event.
