Sourdough 101 on November 18, 2023

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to make sourdough bread, you’ll have your chance on starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Wilmot Community
Association’s Red Barn, 64 Village Road.

Wilmot resident, David Janas, will demonstrate his method of sourdough culture and
baking.  David has loved to eat bread for his entire life and has been baking all of his
own bread for the past seven years. The basis of his technique is from a year-long
stint as a professional baker at Amy's Bakery Arts Cafe in Brattleboro, VT.
“If you like to have precise measurements and step-by-step instructions, then this
class is not for you,” David said. “I do not measure any of the ingredients in the
dough. The class will focus on how a good dough should look and feel with hands-on
participation from maintaining a starter through the mixing and shaping processes to
the final bake.

“Participants can expect to go home with a jar of active starter and clothes covered in flour!” he added.

The class is free, but registration is required and limited. The class will be about two
hours.  To register for this class, please contact us by email at WCA@WilmotWCA.org and put Sourdough 101 in the subject line.

More information also is available at 603-526-7934. The WCA’s office, 64 Village Road, Wilmot, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.
